Nervous yet?

Jake reacts to the awkwardness of Paul Shaffer

I think I’m more nervous talking with David Letterman, because I know how smart he is, than I am because of all the people watching it. -- Jake Gyllenhaal in Interview, 10/07
TVGuide.com has listed an appearance by Jake on The Late Show with David Letterman for Monday, October 15. Let's hope that Dave can be bothered this time to learn what role Jake plays in Rendition, and that Paul Shaffer will say something just as silly as last time so Jake can zing him again. It should be the kickoff to a week full of Rendition promotion, not unlike the orgasmic leadup to Zodiac we enjoyed in February.

Jake demonstrates his neice-diapering failure to ConanJake's interviews are always a treat, though the fun factor depends on the interviewer. That's why it seemed odd to hear this entertaiment blogger call Jake's sense of humor "Hollywood's darkest secret." Huh? Since when is it a secret that Jake is extremely witty, with a natural sense of comedic timing? I'm not complaining, per se; Caroline Kepnes is gushing about how funny--and smart--our boy is, but does one really have to be obsessed to notice the qualities that led Brad Silberling to compare Jake to one-time comic icon Jerry Lewis during his commentary on Moonlight Mile?

Jake tells Conan about his modern dance traumaShe goes on to say that "That's why a brilliant, sophisticated comedy writer—like Woody Allen, Mike White, Julie Delpy or Nicole Holofcener—should pen a script for Jake." It's completely unclear from her statement whether she's aware that Jake already had roles in a White (The Good Girl) and a Holofcener (Lovely & Amazing) film.* I concede, those weren't written for him, but they weren't exactly my idea of lighthearted fare. Did she really think The Good Girl was funny? I thought it was tragic. Jake could definitely run away with a Woody Allen script, though, so I'm with her there.

Jake tells a national tv audience that his parents go commandoMeanwhile, my number one thought while reading her post was, when do we get to see this press conference? I suppose it's too much to ask that it was recorded for later use, but I'd settle for just a transcript. When it comes to Jake doing press, I'm very greedy. I want it all.

*Edited to add: I know, she did acknowledge The Good Girl in the prior sentence. But her next statement made it sound like she was suggesting something wholly new. Bah, I'm medicated today.

All captures: IHJ.

I can't wait for him to be on all of the talk shows again. I will never forget his story about the fire and his parents not wearing any underwear. And Ramonas poo! And kicking a toad. :)

Bring on "Jake Week" part II.

Here it goes again, Jake will be everywhere and my head will be spinning in excitement and fear of being losing something...:P
Thank you for the sliding summarize of Jake future appearences on the right side of the banner...

I think that Caroline Knepes is saying the same thing as most of Gyllenhaalics : Jake must do a comedy!!!:D
No seriously. She's saying that Jake's comedy skills should shine MORE often and MORE (literally)through his movies IMO.
But WE know that even Jack Twist, despite his tragic end, was a very funny guy...:)

And I didn't get that Good Girl reference either. The Good Girl was definitely a tracic movie.:(

Yes, BG, I can't wait to hear what new stories Jake will share with us. I still watch those shows from February every once in a while, when I need a pick-me-up. The only thing more soothing and wonderful than Jake's acting is Jake being Jake. *sigh*

I'm glad I'm not the only one who didn't consider The Good Girl a comedy, Xenia. Yes, it had humor, but not enough to qualify it in my opinion. I agree, the blogger is spot on about Jake needing to do a comedy, something we've all been saying for quite a while. It's been a long time since Bubble Boy and this time he needs something sophisticated that people (myself included, before I succumbed to Jake's charms) won't dismiss as tasteless before they've seen it.

I decided to add the upcoming events list on a whim, while I was bored at work, and I like it. I just hope I'll be able to keep up with everything as it's announced. Glad you like the idea.

I got all excited last night because when I played back House from my DVR, there was a tv ad for Rendition, and it wasn't one of the several I'd seen online. :D Douglas is shouting toward the camera to "Open the gate!" *squee* Now I'm keeping that episode of House until further notice.

Also, Variety is generally reliable, and they're saying Natalie Portman is confirmed for Brothers, so it's looking like a total winner. My real life is dull, but boy, my Jake life is shaping up splendidly. ;)

How I wish I was an American Gyllenhaalic!!!
I wanna see Jake on my favourite talk-shows, I wanna see him speak a tentative Italian (that will be really SEXY)giving us all his oh so special Milanese recipe...I wanna see him shyly thanking the interviewer for an unaspected compliment...
Instead I'll never be able to see a Rendition 'Making of'(not in a million years, here in Italy we stopped at Leo Di Caprio as a 'great star' guh!)...or Douglas shouting 'Open the gate!'...why o why?
I hope Rome Film Fest will do the miracle...

Natalie Portman joining Brothers's cast is wonderful news!!:D

I've been looking for a way to get video off of my Comcast DVR and into my computer, Xenia, and if I ever succeed, I will make sure that you have a locally-playable DVD of whatever Jake items I have collected! That reminds me of another project I never got back to. Hmmm. Gotta take care of that soon.

I hope Rome Film Fest will do the miracle...

How could it not? ;) Of course I'm biased, but I can't imagine crowds seeing the Douglas!Jake, with the hair and the intensity, and then Jake in a press conference (fingers crossed!) and not being completely seduced and enchanted by our beloved.

Oh that would be GREAT Cherita!!
I LOVE YOU! :*

And you're right, they're gonna be all seduced by our Precious...it's inevitable...
You know what? This is crazy I know but my selfish, coward self (I dare to say my Ennis self, sorry Ennis, no disrespect intended...)is scared to death by this...by finding myself close to him and being a stranger, being pushed and shoved here and there by the crowd taking him away from me...crazy to say the least,he?...:P

This my 1st time posting in your wonderful blog Cherita! And I agree: Jake should do a comedy!

I know you think it's crazy, Xenia, but I truly believe that feeling is something we all need once in a while to keep us alive, reminding us what it was like to be a child when we were awed and overwhelmed so easily by events. My attachment to Jake definitely has made me feel younger. Does your comment mean that you've secured a ticket to the Romacinemafest?

Welcome, Hedda, and thank you for the compliment! Glad to see you here, finally. ;) Please be sure to make it a habit.

It took me about an hour to find a backup link verifying Stephanie's report of Jake scheduled on Conan for 10/16, but I finally did, so now it's posted in the sidebar. 12:35am 10/16 means it's on right after the Letterman show at 11:35pm 10/15, so perhaps I should request 10/16 off from work! I'll be sleep-deprived for sure....

BirdGirl said...

It's not like you will be able to sleep after that. I know I won't!

Now I'm definitely gonna request the day off. He'll be on Live with Regis and Kelly that morning. :D Also added to his schedule: Jon Stewart again! This is going to be just like Zodiac week, and I can't wait. I hope my weekend project (the DVR transfer) is successful, so I can preserve all of it for anyone who might miss something.
